What is the basic difference between loose powder and compact?

Ok I know this may sound like a really silly question, but I have to know the correct definations.

So, points for an explicit and detailed answer! What is the basic difference between loose powder and compact?
Loose Powder is great for setting your makeup and making it stay on longer. A great inexpensive one is COTY Airspun Loose powder ($6), it hs been around for ages and works wonders. I put it on every morning after my foundation and my makeup looks great at 5pm!

A great expensive one is Lancome Photogenic Loose powder ($27). Great for special occasions (dance, wedding, photo shoots)

Pressed powder is used for touch ups during the day to combat shine and keep you looking fresh and polished. I love Cover Girl Clean Powder. It keeps away shine without messing up your blush/concealer. What is the basic difference between loose powder and compact?
Loose Powder, is applied with a big fan brush gets more areas of your face, but in my opinion, you would be loosing alot at a time because some of the small particles drift to the bottom, and then they make a mess.

Compact powder is easier its applied with a brush or a clothish thing haha, i forgot. anyway i think you get more coverage with a compact powder.

I hope I'VE helped hah. But um try Estee Lauder if you can, good powders. (:
Just as you've described...loose is usually in a container and all loose and a mess, whereas the compact kind comes in a compact - the kind with 2 sides...one side has the mirror and the other side has the powder with the applicator that you rub on your face. Do you get it now? Hope I've helped. =)
loose powder is applied with a large, loose brush

compact is applied with a small round pad, usually included when you buy the powder

loose is more for oilier skin, whilst compact is more for dry skin.

oil soaks up loose powder better.

i think!

Loose powder is applied with a big brush, dusted on.

Compact powder is applied with a small pad.

I would think that compact powder is best for people with more oily types of skin because they have more shine. Loose powder applies less.
Loose powder will fall out of its tub if you drop it ,

pressed powder wont but you can still apply it as easily as a loose one :)
